Valentine's Day

Holy buckets I'm barely keeping my head above water over here, and even though everyone blogged about valentines day the day after valentine's day, I'm just gonna pat myself on the back for getting this up before march. But listen up, we just bought our first desktop computer, so I feel like blogging will be a heckuva lot easier to do now that I don't have to deal with an uncooperative, eternally low-on-battery lap top.  We also got a new DSLR camera and I'm just a liiiiiittle bit excited. I don't think we've ever spent that much money in one week in our entire marriage (except for when we bought a car) and I'm trying not to panic about it. We still have plenty in our savings but I have this disease called frugality that I can't ever seem to shake. But overall, that's probably a good thing right?

I'm impressed I just wrote a long old paragraph that had absolutely nothing to do with Valentine's day. . I stinkin' love Valentines Day. Truth be told, I love all holidays now that I have a little girl who gets so giddy about the little traditions and fun (read:candy) that is involved.

Lyla's 7 month mark of life happened to land on Valentine's day so she got her own little heart-filled photo shoot. I could NOT get over how cute she looked in this little get up. It's embarrassing how many pictures I took of her this day. Good thing I got it secondhand for $3, because she promptly pooped ALLLL over the outfit after a few hours of wearing it.  That's pretty much a daily occurrence around here in case you were wondering.

She was all about it at first. Hammin' it up and melting my heart.
aaaaaaand she's over it.

The day before Valentines, Jane invited some friends over. We made pink rice krispie treats together, cut them into hearts, and then her and her friends decorated them. This is the lazy mom's version of decorating sugar cookies.

cringing as she ate this sugar overdose, but all in the name of valentine's day!

The week leading up to valentine's day, we spent most afternoons making valentines for all her friends. We then delivered them, and she thought she was awesome. After dropping them off at one house I asked her "Jane, how does it make you feel to give those to your friends?" And she said "It makes me feel happy inside my body!"
^^the cutest dang face i've ever seen.

And these photos were in reverse of how the day happened. So to end this post I'll show you what we ate for breakfast, because that's logical. It was delish. Wholewheat pancakes, strawberries, bananas, whipped cream, peanut butter, maple syrup, and bacon. Probably the perfect breakfast. I'll admit, I'm pretty good at making a good breakfast every morning. It's my favorite meal, and so to make a special breakfast, I have to really pull out all the stops. So the whipped cream is what made it "special". Jane's world is rocked every time the word "cream" escapes my lips.
totally on track to become the next big thing in the food photography world, yeah?

After making a serious spread for dinner on valentine's night, which of course never was pictured because by the time I was finished there was no energy left to snap a pic, I realized that apparently the way I show my love is good food because, uhm, I spend the whole darn day in the kitchen. No complaints here though because I got to eat the food too ;)

I told jeff I didn't want anything for Valentine's day this year since he took me shopping for my birthday and it was so fun (for me) because I can't remember the last time I bought clothes for myself. We went shopping as a whole family. He let me buy whatever I wanted, and let me try on clothes. He wore lyla in the carrier and tried to wrangle jane from touching and destroying (somehow simultaneously) every thing off the hangers and shelves. And even though his eyes told me that he would rather be suffering a most painful death, his mouth did not utter a complaint. What a saint! I love my forever valentine.

  1. Bahahaha the food pic. Dude send me some more healthy recipes! Are your whole wheat pancakes more dense than regular ones? Mine aren't as fluffy as normal pancakes...Also you should try making waffles and putting cheddar cheese and bacon in too before you shut the waffle iron. Your welcome in advance for revolutionizing your world ;)
